Crown and Veneer Home Care

Protecting your crown or veneers is simple if you follow certain guidelines, ensuring that your restoration will last for years.

  • Do not rip or tear with your teeth, such as biting nails or opening bags
  • Avoid biting on ice, nuts and other hard items
  • Avoid movement that twists or pulls veneers away from the natural part of the tooth
  • Keep all follow-up appointments and schedule regular dental checkups every six months
  • If you grind your teeth, ask your dentist about a bite guard you can wear at night
  • Floss and brush regularly:
    • Hold the toothbrush sideways against teeth with the bristles pointing at your gum line
    • Use short strokes and allow the head of the brush to move back and forth or make tiny circles with it for about 20 strokes or circles
    • Roll the brush to move bristles towards the biting edge of tooth, moving plaque away from the gum line
    • When brushing the inside of front teeth, hold the brush vertically and use the same circular or back-and-forth motion
    • Clean the chewing surface of teeth with the bristles facing straight down
